Bayeux Tapestry

Drove to Bayeux to view the Bayeux Tapestry today. Actually it isn’t a tapestry rather it is actually an embroidery made to tell the story of William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Measuring 70m long by 50 cm high it is a unique insight into medieval life.

Normandy is beautiful country. Rolling hills and lush green fields. We saw grains, flax, corn and beans growing. Lots of wildflowers and poppies blooming right now.

After a delicious crepe for lunch we drove on to Juno Beach. D Day landings are being recognized this week. Lots of old jeeps driving around and regalia visible.

There is a very informative museum at Juno Beach attended by Canadian students. The beaches are vast and there are bunkers still visible. Solemn experience.
